The Blood on the Door Post: Guest Post

One of the greatest pictures in the Old Testament of the blood atonement of Christ is found in the book of Exodus.  God had been delivering the plagues among the Egyptians because of the hardness of Pharoah’s heart and He was about to deliver the final one.    Had the Israelites not placed the blood on the door post, their homes would have been treated just as the Egyptian homes that didn’t have the blood.  “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.”  Exodus 12:13. Just as that blood was the distinguishing mark and turning point then, the blood of Christ is our distinguishing mark and turning point now.   Take a moment and reflect on that.  Nothing, not one thing could have been done by you to protect yourself from the judgement and wrath of God.

Got that picture?  I hope so, because it is powerful and is life changing.  Do you remember the rest of that night?  God instructed the Israelites to be ready to leave quickly, to leave their sandals on and prepare only enough meat for then and to throw the rest out.

What was God’s point in all of that?  When the blood is applied, change happens.  There is no delay period, the Israelites left Egypt quickly afterward.  Never return and their lives were to be forever changed.  God delivered His people from bondage they couldn’t escape by themselves.  That’s exactly what He did for us by the voluntary shedding of Christ’s blood on the cross.

So what is my point in all of this?  If the blood of Christ has been applied to your life, change should be happening and its the evidence of a redeemed life.  The Israelites didn’t return to Egypt and bondage after being delivered and we must not either.  Live in Christ everyday, live in the beauty and promise of a redeemed life.  Allow the old you to be changed and made more like Christ.  My biggest error after being saved in high school, was not pursuing God with all my heart and not surrendering everything to follow him.  Don’t spend the next years wondering in the desert in disobedience, but worship God with your life.  He is worth every ounce!
