What is General Revelation?

What is general revelation? General revelation is general revelation of God. The beauty of sunrises and sunsets, the majesty of oceans, the magnificence of overpowering mountains down to the delicacy of the flowers and even the complexity of the human body. All of these things point to and reveal things about God and who he is. This revelation has left no one without excuse. We see this clearly in the Book of Romans.

Romans 1:19-23 “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things .” (ESV)

I am convinced atheists know there is a God; agnostics know there is a God deep down. Scripture clearly states that they are without excuse, but because they have rejected his goodness and instead of worshiping Him they worshiped His creation. Their hearts became darkened because of their pride.

This revelation is obvious however it is not salvific. Paul shares with us in Romans 10:14 “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” It is clear and urgent that the Gospel of Jesus Christ needs to be proclaimed.
